Focal Chorus 800V Loudspeaker Line
Proving, once again, that they never rest on their (many) laurels, the Focal folks have spent the past year or so redefining the highly successful Chorus speaker line. The entry-level Chorus 700 Series hasn't gone away, though, so don't be alarmed! They've become the 700V series and the new Chorus 800V loudspeakers were envisioned as the logical "next step up" from the 700s. In the process, Focal realized that the basic Chorus design had become a bit long in the tooth, so lots of thought went into re-styling the outside of the speakers as well as completely re-engineering the inside. (And, yes, the changes have already "trickled down" to the new 700Vs!)

Let's take a peek at the Chorus 800V line:
The first thing you notice is the sleek new look, with many elements borrowed from the Focal Electra 1000Be line, including the tapered side panels. Looking at the floorstanding model you'll see an interesting plynth at the base with a little space under the speaker cabinet. This indicates the downward-firing port that, in conjunction with the front port, contributes to the superb control of deep, dynamic low frequency fundamentals. Floating just above the speaker grill is the new TNV Aluminum-magnesium tweeter, the fruition of Focals latest research into materials following the acclaimed Berylium tweeter of the ElectraBe and Utopia lines. Looking under the grill you'll see further refinements in cone materials with the debut of Focals new Polyglass coned midrange and low frequency drivers. Intrigued? You should be!
