The 640H Audiofile Music Server |

Anyway you look at it this is an exceptional product with far-reaching implications for the way we interact with our music. If you read the blurb on the "What's New" page you know what we mean. Not "just" a CD palyer, or "just" a hard drive on which you can store your music, the 640H helps define the new paradigm for how we access, store, organize, and distribute our music. The diagram below gives a good overview of the many ways in which the 640H becomes the nexus for all your music requirements (please make note: the 640H MUST be hooked up to either a small monitor screen, TV, plasma or LCD, or projection system to fully access its multiple control interfaces.) | |||||||||||
| In a nutshell: load a CD and the 640H automatically connects to the internet (Firewire connection preffered - we use Apple's Airport Express) and the CDs song titles are found and displayed (even album cover art can be accessed). Then you can either listen to the CD or download specific tracks onto the 640H (160 Gb gives you space for up to 300 uncompressed CDs or 3000 compressed), creating your own Playlists (like in iTunes) that you can define by Artist, Genre, Album or whatever strikes your fancy. Once the music resides on the 640H you can simply play it back or burn your own CDRs with the specific Playlists or Tracks you choose directly on the 640H! As a true music server, the 640H can also act as the main source in multiple-room set-ups, even streaming to and from other other units in your home or even your PC wirelessly! The 640H even has built-in Net Radio to access stations across the globe. | ||||||||||||
| The best news is that Cambridge has based the 640H on its highly-acclaimed 640C CD player, using the same Wolfson DAC and filter to provide true audiophile-quality playback. On the rear of the unit (shown on the right) you can see the wealth of connections available, including Composite, S-Video, and VGA monitor feeds, inputs for PS/2 mouse and keyboard, infra-red emitter in and out, SPDIF or optical digital outs, as well as Ethernet and USB ports. Oh, and good, old-fashioned stereo RCA audio outs for the rest of us dinosaurs... The most amazing thing is this: Cambridge has accomplished all of this for only $1,399.00! (Yes, read that again!) Highly recommended! | ||||||||||||
